July marks the beginning of a new session in JUPC. New session means a lot of new faces with new ideas but with very little or no photography background, new shoulders to carry the club forward in the future. So the task of disciplining these minds from the technical point of view , is taken up by the members of JUPC.
The training session comprises of four theoretical classes held on Friday evenings after university classes are over. The classes are taken by final year members of JUPC. The topics include:-
a) Basics of Photography
b) Exposure
c) Depth of Field
d) Composition
On corresponding Sunday mornings the freshers are taken to various destinations like Victoria Memorial, Botanical Garden, Zoo, Piyali, for practical classes. There the freshers are divided into several groups with two senior group leaders who take up the responsibility of getting the juniors acquainted with the Manual SLR Cameras.
The remaining weekdays are used for darkroom training, including introduction to Black & White developing and printing as well as an introduction to digital editing techniques like use of Adobe Photoshop.
After the formal training session is over juniors and seniors are in constant interaction with the seniors answering the various queries of the freshers, and even demonstrating to them the tricks of the trade when going out for shooting during weekends.
JUPC is acclaimed in the photography circles due to its fresh ideas, which come from blossoming of these new minds which assemble at the club at the dawn of July.
To conclude, the basic training session is followed by an advanced training session, after the 2nd semester, where the first years are taught the advanced aspects of exposure, composition, Photoshop along with other things like filters, flash, close up kits etc. by their immediate seniors.
